I gave up my home phone about 4 years ago and stuck with my cell as the primary number. My initial reason was to keep telemarketers away.  Even with the "bundled" packages from SBC and Charter, it's still cheaper for me to have a cell phone and cable separately. 

But the reason why I post this is because I had to work from home for a few days, and I really would have liked a home phone at the time, especially when making hour-long conference calls to 800 numbers (which are free from home but take up minutes on a cell).

So, has anyone tried the Skype or VOIP where you can call over the Internet? If so, likes and dislikes? I would really like to hear some thoughts about it. 

If there are good things to say, I may try that next time I work from home.
