They call me Shannon, mother of three, task master, and concierge-at-large.

As a single mother, I finally decided to make the transition from "working for the man" to owning my own business. I started a concierge and organizational services business with the aim of helping others like me "put the quality back in their time".

This is my first day at STL Moms, and I am wondering if there are any other proprieter mommies out there who can offer any tips on marketing, networking, and balancing home work and home life.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Shannon!

Welcome to STLMom's. I've been a stay-at-home mom for about 3 years now and also had a work from home style business. I've juggled it all - but I've recently decided to take a break from direct sales and focus on getting better at being a stay-at-home mom. I'd like to hear more about what you do. It sounds like you've got a great service to offer and promising business idea. Would you like to share? More info about it?

Sincerely,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I'd say being a stay-at-home mom is one of the hardest things I ever did. I did it for two years when my first two were very little. I wanted to see every minute, mold them, teach them... all of the things you can't replace, but somewhere in there, I lost myself. It's been about five years since I started working again, and it's been a long road of finding that balance, and it's still a work in progress. I still hate missing field trips and awards assemblies, but I feel like I'm teaching them a lesson too, about responsibility. I was not talented enough to do it from home. Congrats to you for following your heart!!

In my on-going quest for balance and serenity, I realized what everyone wants more of.... more than money or things or food or even chocolate (i'm not sure I believe the chocolate one, lol)  is TIME! Just like everyone else, I am always complaining that there aren't enough hours in the day. If I don't do laundry, grocery shopping, gift shopping, errand running, closet organizing, mail birthday/holiday cards, make reservations, plan my childs next birthday party, etc, etc, etc....who is??? Especially as moms, we wear sooooo many hats, we are constantly juggling, managing the house, the family calendar, working, researching, reading, trying to fit in working out, we are always running, running, running.

I decided we all needed to put an end to the madness. Despite all of the latest technology, our lives are still busier than ever and in our "free" time, we are left feeling guilty because our TO-DO list is lurking just around the corner. While I'm busy managing the family and household, everyone else is having fun. Not cool. My answer: Delegate! I created a company that you can delegate certain "chores" to. Thus, giving you time in which you can relax, have fun, and not feel one ounce of guilt.

We deserve this time...quality time. We all work hard. I love being able to help people, to realize that they have finally been able to "stop and smell the roses" is an awesome feeling.

Feel free to check out my website: www.shannonmarieconcierge.com

I welcome any and all tips or pointers about working from home....anything! Thanks for taking time to reply to my original post, I truly appreciate it!!

Hope to talk soon,

Shannon

Hi Everyone!

My name is Amy Andell and I am a stay at home mom (first time mommy). I have a four month old daughter.
I too own my own business. I spend every moment that my daughter is sleeping, working on my website. It's a little difficult juggling a newborn, house hold chores and working full time on my business; but the pay off is so worth it. I love being able to spend every day with my new best friend, my daughter.

Hi Everyone,
I too love the freedom of being a stay at home mom and working my home party plan business in the evenings! Thankfully I've been able to work only on the nights that we don't have ball practice or ball games, swim lessons, soccer or whatever sport my son is participating in. It's been such a blessing and a privilege to be present for all of his "firsts" throughout these last 5 years!
I've been with Home & Garden Party for 8 years now and have earned a great income, earned 5 trips, and had the opportunity to meet lots of fun people and make new friends with my hostesses, party guests and our Team members! It's amazing to me that I have the privilege to meet new people, sample great snacks, laugh and have fun, while getting paid at every party! Most people get fired for what this "Job" consists of...I'm wild about my job!

Interested in earning a Free Shopping Spree with Home & Garden Party? Invite a few friends over for a fun filled Girls Night Out Party and I'll mail your invitations, make reminder calls to your guests and you'll enjoy a fun filled evening with your friends! I have some great Hostess Specials available for You...Let's Party!

Looking for a way to increase your weekly budget to help off set the increases in gas prices and food? Check out this business opportunity at www.TerriRuble.com or contact me for more information. We're now beginning our Trip Contest for this year which is an All Inclusive Trip to Riu Santa Fe in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! Join me in business and on this trip! You deserve to be "treated like a Queen" and I promise you will be! Free training provided for your success both personally and through our company's website. You owe it to yourself to check out this business for yourself.

Hi everyone!
I'm new to this group and was happy to see so many other moms who own businesses! I am a wife, mother of 2 boys (5 years and 7 weeks old, respectively). Before my older son was born I worked for a local company. Shortly after going back to work I realized that I no longer wanted to give 110% to that company... I needed to have something left over to give to my family.

So, I left the company to start my own private practice. I provide music therapy and behavior therapy to almost anyone who needs it. The company is still very small but it's growing slowly. I'm beginning to expand my practice to help teens and adults improve their health and fitness levels now! My boys still have to go to day care and preschool while I'm out serving my clients (many of whom are children with autism and developmental disabilities), but we are always home in time for a family dinner. I learned early on that setting boundaries for my time was crucial to keeping my sanity. For the first several months of having my business, I put an open/closed sign in the middle of my desk. When it was time to be with my family, I flipped the sign to the "closed" side to keep me from sneaking in at all hours of the day and night to do work.

I didn't want to have to give up serving others, but I also didn't want my career of service to take me away from my family. Starting my own business has given me the opportunity to have the best of both worlds. It was definitely scary at first... but now I'm happier than I ever was working for someone else. I'm excited to read all of the other stories on this thread. It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who found this to be a great solution to the old stay at home/work outside he home issue.

Hello,

I saw STLMOMS on television, but decided to really check it out after a friend of mine became active with it.  It is a very informative and supportive community which I love!

A 14 year old girl and a set of 10 year old boy twins are my responsibility!  With support ifrom family, friends and other mothers with advice life is good.  I also have my own business!  My field is health and fitness (i.e. professional fitness trainer, Health & Weight Management...) which I  have been and am active in for the past +13 years.  I have created my own original workout program called, JAMCORPS!  It was recently featured on, SHOW ME ST. LOUIS, and is taught at various locations in the St. Louis area.

JAMCORPS is a total-body workout system for all ages and fitness levels that is results driven!  You can visit the website for more information.  This year, 2008, I am scheduled to release the first exercise video for release this fall.  I am excited!

Please, feel free to visit the website at, WWW.JAMCORPS.COM  or call 314-275-2813 for more information.  I invite everyone to take a class and the first session is FREE on me!

Yours In Health and Prosperity,

Michelle
