Hey, I know a lot of you here work for Direct Sales Companies or have your own small businesses that you run out of your homes and such. I wanted to put this out there for you.
I run Crosswire Designs, which is a little freelance web design company out here in St. Charles. About a year ago, we started a web project we call 'Project Common Ground', in which we provide, at no cost, an interactive website to subdivisions for their residents to use. Residents are given a username and password, and once logged in the have access to great resources such as a subdivision directory, local calendar, etc. They also have their own message board like this one, which only neighbors can access, that provides a way for residents to 'talk' conveniently.
We have four subdivisions so far, but we're always looking for more. The cost to the subvisions themselves is NOTHING. We provide the service to them free of charge. We pay for the development and hosting costs through advertising, which we court from local small businesses in an effort to keep the whole site community-focused. The advertising is really affordable, and since you can pick and choose which subdivisions you want to target, you can really get yourself some great exposure. The message board brings residents to the site on a daily basis, and we make sure our subdivision residents are aware of who, exactly, is supporting their site each month. It can be a great way to get your name out there and drum up loyalty business.
We have four subdivisions so far, two of which are ready for advertisers, the other two of which are due to be ready in September or so. We are looking for advertisers and for more subdivisions. So, if you're a subdivision resident who thinks a website might benefit your neighborhood, or you're a small-business owner looking for a way to advertise inexpensively, come check out our website at http://www.projectcommonground.com
