I am using a babysitter (that is not family) for the first time starting next week and have no idea what to pay her.  She will sitting one day a week for about 4hours.  She is taking care of one baby, anybody know the going rate these days?

I would pay 7 or $8.00/hour.  I have two kids and I pay 9 or 10.

Keep in mind the age of your sitter; I think for a young person just starting out in the babysitting biz you can pay less than you would, say, for a college age person with CPR training. I just started having a going into 9th grade girl come for a few hours at a time and I paid her $20 for 3-31/2 hours, so between 6 and 7. I have two preschool girls (I also think the age of your kid/s matters, as well as your child's temperment. If you have a little one that cries for an hour each time you leave and the sitter is good and you want her back, pay her accordingly! If you have twin boys that demand buckets of energy, pay for that; My two girls are pretty easy to please by sitting and reading and playing puzzles or board games so I don't feel sitters to anything extra for them, if that makes sense.)
