New to the area and thought I might need to start going to a gym or aerobics class, spin class, something to get active again.  I'm not crazy about the big Gyms that have a ton of people.  Any one have any good ideas or recomendations for one in the Richmond Heights area?

Hi Loren,
Come to the Mid County YMCA for a great class called Jamcorps. People of all fitness levels are in the class and it is a great workout. I love it! Check out the Jamcorps website at

If you don't want to join the Y, but would like to try a class, I can get you a pass. Just let me know. Hope to see you there!

JAMCORPS, It is an OUTSTANDING TOTAL BODY WORKOUT! It has a Jamcorps Workout Tracker that goes along with the program and you REALLY DO GET RESULTS. It is spreading to more locations in St. Louis and it is also taught outside in area parks. You should check out the website. It was recently featured on a local television program called, SHOW ME ST. LOUIS!

Hey Loren!

Welcome to Stlmoms!  We have a great Wellness Team here and all are welcomed to jump on board!

We enjoy walking on Wednesdays and have been checking out parks around the St. Louis/Illinios area!  Getting out and enjoying the fresh air is a wonderful escape from the day to day routine!  The team is growing and we are adding little events from time to time.  We welcome any new ideas of things to do to keep moving!!

Send me an email and I can give you my cell so we can keep in touch and the "when and where" we will be walking!  Lots of ideas in the works for summer!!  Come on out ladies and let's have some fun!!

Staying Smart at Picnics and Social Occasions

Summer is full of sunny social occasions. But sometimes the food that accompanies picnics, barbecues, and baseball games can be less than congruent with your meal plan. Here are some tips for planning ahead so the fried chicken, potato chips, and gooey desserts don’t get the best of you.

The best thing you can do is bring your own food to the occasions. Simply Fit™ Cookies make a great picnic food. You could also bring a low-fat spinach dip and some Simply Fit Crackers. Or you could add some interest to a veggie tray with red peppers, snow peas, or baby corn. Fruit salad is always a good idea (try a refreshing change by tossing in a few chopped mint leaves). Or try Bruschetta with whole-grain pita chips. You can use any low fat cookie or chip, these are just the ones I suggest.
The Bruschetta is amazing!

Kick off your summer picnic plans with this easy fruit salsa. In a large bowl, thoroughly mix the following:

1/2 pound strawberries
1/4 pound raspberries
1 apple, cored and diced
1 kiwi, peeled and diced
1 tablespoon white sugar (or equivalent sugar substitute)
1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon and 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar-free fruit preserves (any flavor)

Cover that and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes. In the meantime, take five 10-inch low-carb flour tortillas and coat one side of each with butter-flavored cooking spray. Cut them into wedges and arrange them in a single layer on a large baking sheet, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar (or equivalent sugar substitute with cinnamon). Spray them again and bake them at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Allow the wedges to cool for 15 minutes and serve them with your chilled fruit mixture. It’s delicious, fresh, serves five, and contains only 140 calories per serving!

I received this email and really wanted to pass it along!  I know first hand how hard it is to keep it under control over the summer!  If you have any good ideas to share please add them!  Good luck with your summer vacations and remember to stay focused!
