Hi fellow Moms! My name is Liz and I am a political junkie. Some people think politics is boring (I used to!), but once I saw how it affected my life and my family's I started to get more interested. I admit I am very opinionated, but I try very hard not to judge the opinions of others and I respect everyone's right to have an opinion. I'm sure there are many, many more things us moms agree on than we disagree on so I'd love to have some great discussions about those things. Here's one topic:

Thankfully I have health insurance for my two boys (altho it won't pay for my son's Newborn Hearing Screening, but that's another story!), but there are so many kids who don't. Say what you want about their parents not being able to provide this for them, but kids don't get to choose whether they can afford to go to the doctor or not. SCHIP is a state-funded healthcare program that could potentially cover 70,000 Missouri kids and 6 million nationwide. The US congress will soon be voting on whether to expand coverage for this program.

My thought that it, cliche as it sounds, it does take a village to raise a child. So the more kids who are insured, the fewer problems we'll have as a society in caring for children who did not get preventative care in the first place. What do all you other moms out there think?

Right on Liz! I whole-heartedly agree. As mothers we should support health coverage for kids (even though I would take it one step further and say everyone should be provided decent health care - the key word being decent). If children aren't healthy, they will never be able to grow to become contributing members of our communities.
