It was just announced that the parents who left their 7-month-old daughter in a hot car where she died will not face charges. Reading about this story made me sick to my stomach, especially since my own baby is the same age as the little girl who died. However, after hearing the prosecuting attorney explain the legal reasons why there were no charges brought, I understand her reasoning. Plus I think these parents have also suffered the worst punishment -- losing their daughter and having to live with the guilt of their mistake forever. Still, I just can't imagine being so caught up in my own life that I would not know the whereabouts of my children. What do you other moms think?

I know they've suffered the worst punishment ever, but you're right: it seems pretty hard to forget your child is with you.
I'll bet prosecutors had a tough time with that one, but it probably came down to the idea that you have to have 'criminal negligence' to prosecute and I'm thinking that "forgetting" doesn't rise to the level of criminality.

I just don't understand the lack of communication between the parents, especially in light of the busy schedules they seemed to be juggling.

I don't really have an opinion as to whether they should be charged with any crime, but I do believe if they were poor, uneducated and/or a minority, the outcome and press would have looked different.
