Thought I would pass this on to other moms out there. My son, who will be a year next month, has shown a great dislike for sitting in his highchair pretty much from the start. As an alternative one day, we put him in one of his sister's booster seats in a tall kitchen chair (not the kind for a car, the other kind). The chair was strapped and so was he, but that didn't prevent him from pushing himself backwards in the blink of an eye. Luckily it only caused a bump on the head (it was golf ball sized, but only a bump nonetheless). Unfortunately for Henry, he was back in the high chair for meals. As prepared and safe as I would like to think I am, I didn't think about that one.

Another time that might happen is when your child is sitting in an unfamiliar chair. My daughter was two at the time when she was eating at her cousin's house. Even though we had told her many, many times not to push back from the table when she was finished, she was 2, and she did it anyway. Well, she pushed, and the chair tipped back onto the tile floor. Just like Henry, it scared her way more than it hurt her. She definitely had the knot on her head, but the experience is what has changed her behavior, and also mine. I am more aware and give more reminders, especially when we are away from home.
