I have always wanted to scrapbook, but have no idea as to where I should start. Any tips would be great. I have tons and tons of pictures that I really need to start putting someplace other than on my computers hard drive. I have seen classes advertised, but am not sure what ones are good to go to or if going to a class is really needed. Someone please help me with where I should start.

Katie we have a scrapbooking event on a monthly basis. One of the ladies in our church has a very organized, cool basement where she invites over and we scrap together. I haven't been in a while but maybe I can get something going at my house once a month or so to get us all together? What do you think? Most scrapbooking stores also offer times to come in and use their cutters and things for a small fee. I have a sister in law that buys alot of her stuff from Micheals.

I made a scrapbook last weekend. It was my first one, but it wasn't really that hard to do at all. I would suggest taking your time on it and not rushing through it. You can be as creative as you want with it. I got a lot of stuff at big lots and target. There are websites out there if you google it that will show you some ideas. The one I made was pretty simple, but the next one will be more elaborate.

We have monthly classes at For Keeps Sake in St. Louis.  Even on the weekends!  I would look into joining a kit club to get your going, they offer a complete kit and ideas and are also very helpful with any questions and such.

You can email me at teetsamy AT gmail DOT com if you have any questions, I also design scrapbook paper and such, so I kinda have to know what's going on! LOL

My blog is here as well:

amyteetsdesigns.blogspot.com ....there you'll find digital, hybrid and traditional stuff

I would say that the best things to do are to get your pictures organized.  Then decided what kind of book your wanting to make.  I just started scrapbooking within the last year and I started out by organizing my pictures and then I wanted to make scrapbooks for my three boys that they could keep when they get older or married, etc.  So I started by picking the pictures for my oldest son and then started looking for papers/stickers/etc that fit his likes and hobbies.  I had some help from my local Creative Memories consultant getting the right tools to start with, but you cant start with every tool you will ever need that is where getting together with a group to "share" tools works great!  Also the Creative Memories company sponsors a lot of crop sessions where you bring your stuff, but you can use all the tools that the consulant has also!  These are great ways to start.  Also keep an eye on sale items in the local craft store and stock up on needed items when they are on sale... This will save you lots of money as scrapbooking can get expensive if you dont utilize sales on items.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me.  I hope your scrapbooking goes well.  I love doing it,  It is definatly a great hobby to start!!

Did I mention that a Creative Memories consultant will usually teach you how to use tools and items for free??  If you need a name of a consultant let me know.. I use a really awesome one.

i started scrapping just over a year ago and i found, and have been told by many others, to start with an event that is recent and work backwards, rather than starting at the beginning.  i have also found that no one is ever caught up and everyone always complains about being behind.  but that just is a fact of scrapping.  you can find lots of scrapping events to go to, and as a Close To My Heart consultant, i can work with you and give you lots of tips as well.  everyone's style is different, and you'll need to create your own, but we sell these awesome books thatwill guide you through page setups from the beginning.  they are awesome books and OH SO HELPFUL!
