I just spent $30 in baby food and it's almost gone!!! WOW! That and it just tastes like crap and has no flavor? Is it just me?

Deidre and I were chatting and we've decided to spend a few hours one day and make a freezer full of baby food.

I found an AWESOME website that just walks you through everything you'll need to know about how to do and it:

http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com

It's GREAT and I hope it helps someone out there!

Sincerely,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I agree, home made is so much cheaper and can be healthier if you go organic too.  I consulted that website myself and thought it was great.  One thing I do disagree with is their microwave philosophy (it being the last resort).  Some research has pointed out that microwaving certain vegetables actually helps retain the nutrients better than traditional cook methods.  I did try to micro in non-plastic dishware, however.

Something I did to save time (or at least it seemed like it did) was to cut up and cook a bunch of things while I was making dinner or lunch, then I could let them cool and puree later.  I found working it into my regular schedule helped me get it done.  And by the way, you don't need any special equipment except for something that will puree your foods, a strainer and some old ice cube trays.

Good luck!

If making your own isn't for you try lobbing for your local Sam/Cosco to carry it. I got to thinking after reading this post so I called the member service number for Sams. I talked to an extremely nice/helpful man about getting my store to carry baby food. He took my info and request and is sending it to the manager of my store. I am supposed to hear back from the manager within the next 24-72 business hours. I'll keep you posted about the outcome. Regardless, I figure if enough people are interested and call then they will carry it. I don't think I would even need to split the bulk with anyone since my little one goes through it so fast but that is always an idea too. i hope this helps!

Okay, it took awhile but I finally was successful! If you lobby enough, Sams will carry what you ask them to. I am sure that it is on a probationary basis. They will probably check to see how the sales are going after a few months of carring it. I was able to get them to carry fruit and veggies but not meat. I still don't understand why not on the meat but yeah for fruit & veggies!

Tupperware has our Quick Chef chopper and I make fruit salsa at my parties with one apple, 2 kiwi, 10 strawberries and with a couple turns I have salsa If I do 6-7 turns you would have babyfood, obviously you might not want to do strawberries for newborns, but you get the idea. No electric and you can do so much more with it, lifetime guarantee.  It's a great alternative.
