It's amazing how just a few minutes of sitting down and reading to your child can help them later in life.  Parents as Teachers says a kindergarden teacher can tell immediately which children have been read to and which have not.  What are some of your favorite books as a child?  What books do you enjoy reading to your kids?  Some of my personal favorites:  Goodnight Moon and The Very Hungry Catepillar and Guess How Much I Love You.

Margie I have read to my kiddos since they were in the womb. I love to read and write and want them to love it too. I spend time reading so that they will see me reading too. I have always love the three books you mentioned. I also liked to read them Love you Forever, Curious George series, any Dr Seuss, Duck for President, Caps for Sale, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel,The Story of Ferdinand, Blueberries for Sal, Make way for Ducklings and some others when they were learning to read. My son 13 is an avid reader and we discuss the books he reads, He has read so many books and has 3 favorite authors. My daughter, 15 doesn't read for pleasure, just what she is made to read, but she still does read devotion books to her siblings at night, they have read - The Dream Giver, What would Jesus Do (children's edition), Hinds Feet for High Places(shildren's edition) and they will be readhing 3:16 kids edition soon.
My 11 year old only reads books about cars, planes, wars and biographies. He doesn't like fiction. But he did like Mr Popper's Penguins. My 9 year old daughter reads alot too and she is just now getting in to the Babysitter's club series. My son, 7 years old, is reading his bible as of late. (NIrV).
I love to read Shel Silverstein and other poetry.

We love books!  Tomie de Paola, Patricia Polacco, Eric Carle, Sandra Boynton, Dr. Seuss, and Shel Silverstein are some of our favorite authors.  Our kids love any books with rhymes and/or nursery rhymes.  God Gave us You and God Gave us Two are a couple more of our favorites. Max Lucado and Jan Brett are a couple more of our favorite authors.   "Under the Chinaberry Tree" is a great reference for children's books and parenting in general.

We are a book reading family at our house. We started reading to Zack while he was still in the womb. I learned to read at 4 and have been going ever since! It's one of my favorite activites. Zack had a growing library since before he was born. I even got my husband to start reading more after we got married. My favorite books are the puppet gloves that you put on your hand and have the book in your palm. You can read the book and put on a puppet show at the same time. They are so cool!
