Flu cases are up, and to make matters worse vaccine supplies are down. In some cases the supplies have run out. Parents are worried and doctors are busy treating patients.These are the latest flu numbers from the St. Louis County Health department. There were 243 new cases in the past week So far there are a total of 1003, the vast majority of them are considered to be H1N1.
Doctors offices are busy with people complaining about flu symptoms. At Dr. Joel Koenig's pediatric office, they say they're swamped. The number of flu cases they're seeing has quadrupled in the last three weeks.
Meanwhile, parents are showing up to get their kids flu shots, only to be told the office has run out of the vaccine. More is expected to arrive later in the month.
Last week Barnes-Jewish had to cancel three of its free seasonal flu vaccine clinics because demand was so much greater than expected.
In Jefferson County officials have sent out notice that they have run out of seasonal flu vaccine. They never received their full order, and now they're not expecting to get any more.
