WOOD RIVER, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com)—
The health department in Madison County, Illinois, says it has plenty of H1N1 vaccine, but other areas are still waiting. Wednesday is the first of Madison County's Thursday morning H1N1 clinics, and it will be interesting to see just how many people show up looking for the elusive vaccine. The health department says it has enough doses of the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine to start holding these weekly clinics. The free clinics are being held Thursday mornings from 9:00a.m. to noon at the health department in Wood River. To get the nasal spray vaccine you must be between two and 49 years old, healthy, not pregnant and have no chronic conditions like asthma or diabetes.
What they're hoping to avoid is what happened Tuesday night at Lindbergh High School. There, huge lines formed to get the 1,500 doses available, but before it was over, a number of people had to be turned away. It's no surprise to the school nurse.
Deborah Artman, with Lindbergh School Districtm explained, "No I knew it was going to be chaotic, but I think we're doing the best that we can and everyone is being really cooperative."
Parent Jill Cobb said, "Hopefully everybody will get it, just have to be patient. It's hard to be patient when your kids, you know, when you're worried about them getting sick."
Meanwhile the Kirkwood and Wentzville school districts have both announced that H1N1 clinics they had scheduled are now being cancelled. At least for the moment, there isn't enough of the vaccine to go around.
But in Wood River they say they do have enough. We'll see how that plays out later Thursday.
