Melinda Ohlemiller had no idea the sort of response she would get after sending out a message on Facebook that her organization is in desperate need of diapers. Nurses for Newborns provides care for at-risk families making sure children receive the care they need to survive. They rely on donated items and last week their diaper shelf at their Shresbury headquarters was bare.

After sending that message on Facebook the response was overwhelming, they've received more than 17,000 diapers in just a few days but still need more. They set a lofty goal of 25,000 with just one day to go. Nurses for Newborns will open its doors at 7259 Landsdowne on Labor day from 4:00pm to 6:00pm to accept donations. The Hartford Coffee Company at 3974 Hartford St. near Tower Grove Park is also a drop-off site. The store owners say they cater to families and know the difference the diapers can make.

The store will be open on Labor Day from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.Ohlemiller says for some families it's a choice between a bus pass to go to work or diapers. Nurse for Newborns will go through an estimated 10,000 diapers each day.So while 17,000 sounds like a lot, the agency is still in need of more.
